How to Green
Why is your choice of seeds important? Are there safe seeds and unsafe seeds?
Our food was here before we were. Billions of years of evolution has provided a rich biodiversity. if one plant faltered because of conditions another could be used. Farmers throughout the millennia have saved seeds and cultivated plants that were suited to their region. Nature has provided animals/us with a rich variety of foods for growth, energy, healing and delight.
All this is now severely threatened. A few big corporations want a monopoly on food. They have bought up seed companies, and have destroyed many seeds. They have genetically engineered seeds to be more tolerant of the toxic pesticides they also sell, and because they have a patent on seeds, farmers are forbidden to save seeds and must always buy them from the corporations. They have developed terminator genes that make a plant incapable of reproducing. They have crossed species, animals with vegetables. They are permanently contaminating safe natural organic plants with their GE plants. They are harassing and driving small farmers off the land and many to suicide. They have harassed scientists whose studies point to the danger of GE for humans and other animals.
Choosing safe seed to plant is crucial not only for your health and a continuing safe food supply, but also for saving the genetic integrity and biodiversity of the planet. I would not buy from a seed company that sells genetically engineered seeds even if they also sell non GE seeds.
In the USA 98% of people want their food labeled if it is GE but labels are forbidden.
Want to plant veggies or flowers? How do you know if your seeds are safe? What is an unsafe seed, a safe seed?
A safe seed protects the genetic integrity of seed, does not contaminate other plants, protects the biodiversity of the planet, the food supply and the health of humans and animals. A safe seed is :
1. NON GMO ( genetically modified organism). There is a Safe seed pledge that some seed companies have signed.
2. It IS open pollinated, (non hybrid, it is species. All heirloom are open pollinated.) You can save the seed and replant, it’s healthier.
3. it is hopefully grown organically or without pesticides.
